Game Recap

Penalty kicks decided the match Tuesday night between the Cherokee Warriors and Sprayberry Yellow Jackets. What some call the most unfair way of deciding a match left the Yellow Jackets victors and the Warriors losers on the night. The game was played for the majority of the night in the midfield. Sprayberry created chances early in the game using the speed of their right forward. Big time saves from sophomore keeper Govani Hernandez kept the score knotted at 0-0. The Warriors would create chances as well but could not ultimately put the ball into the net. Due to the non-region game, the coaches decided beforehand that if necessary the two teams would skip overtime and go directly to PK’s. Brian Banderas (Junior Captain) and Dima Lynes (Junior) stepped up first for Cherokee and were able to score. The Jackets were able to net their first two as well to even the PK score at 2 a piece. Following two consecutive Warriors misses, one missing the goal and the other being a massive save, Sprayberry was able to win the match after scoring their last two. The final score of the PK shootout would read 4-2. The loss dropped the Warriors to 4-10-1 on the season while the win brought Sprayberry to 3-13. The Warriors last match of the season will be at home for senior night against Rome (10-4) at 6:00. Come out and support the boys as we honor our seniors for the great work they have done for our soccer program.
