Game Recap

The Walton Raiders and Cherokee Warriors finally finished their game that began on March 21. After a weather postponement and referee delay, the Raiders (ranked 3rd in the state) defeated the Warriors by a final of 5-0. On March 21, the teams were able to get in 17 minutes of play, during which Walton used the one-two ball to their advantage as they quickly built a 2-0 lead. But then lightning and frightening winds rolled into Canton, causing the teams to postpone. At 5:30, the designated kickoff time, there was still no sign of the referees. Following an hour long delay the teams were able to re-start their previous match. The Raiders came out firing on all cylinders, scoring two goals quickly off of crosses to take a 4-0 lead into halftime. Playing for pride, the Warriors were able to build chances but found themselves unable to finish. Junior Dima Lynes was able to create chances off the right side and get deflections from the Walton keeper. Another Walton goal would take the game to the final score of 5-0. The loss dropped Cherokee to 4-9-1 on the year (1-4 in region play). The win improved Walton to 13-2-2 on the season (5-0 in region play). The boys have 2 games left, tonight at Sprayberry (2-13) at 7:30 and then senior night Thursday night at Tommy Baker Field at 6:00 against Rome (10-4). Only a few more chances left to come and support your Warriors!
