Game Recap

The Cherokee Warriors took on the Woodstock Wolverines on Friday night in their first region match of the year. It would be the Warriors that started the scoring on the night. Mara Morrone (Sophomore) found the back of the net from a beautiful shot from distant for her second goal of the season. Woodstock would tie the game shortly after making it 1-1 at the half. The Warriors came out strong in the second half and Morgan Steinberg (Senior) gave the Warriors the lead with a great finish. However, a miscommunication in defense opened the door for Woodstock to tie it up. The Warriors would have more opportunities to win it before overtime, but were unable to convert.

It was on to a penalty shootout. Macy Werner, Alejandra Medina, and Kaleigh Killeen all stepped up to calmly finish their attempts from the spot. Emma Shaw recorded a save on Woodstock’s second attempt after their first hit the crossbar. The Warriors would go on to win the shootout 3-0 and take home the region win.

Next up the Warriors will host East Coweta on Wednesday at 6pm as they look to stay undefeated at home.
